Summer Saturdays with music
Summer Concert Series at the Park Stage of the Klaipėda Concert Hall
30 June – 11 August 2012

By announcing the Summer Concert Series to run from June 30th to August 11th, 2012, we invite the residents and visitors of Klaipėda to share a part of their summer with us and experience the delight of listening to live music in open air, surrounded by the natural greenery. Saturday evenings at the Park Stage of the Klaipėda Concert Hall promise many memorable impressions. In addition to the instrumental voices, the soloists will be accompanied by rustling trees and warbling birds – regular companions of our concerts in the backyard park. These ornate counterpoints of summery sounds will make for a special atmosphere, echo in the shade of the trees, and resonate in our souls, until they fade away together with the last rays of the sun.
“The Lilting June Suite” on June 30th will call for the stringed forces of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra under its artistic director, Mindaugas Bačkus. In this eclectic programme, conducted by Robertas Šervenikas, the orchestra will be joined by accordionist Vladimir Zubitsky whose charming solos will lend a special character to the opening event of the series.
The second appearance of the Klaipėda Concert Hall’s resident orchestra on July 7th, this time with “Guitar Passion,” is going to excite the listeners even more. The programme features guitar player Krzysztof Meisinger, a guest soloist from Poland. In opinion of critics and music lovers from around the world, he is one of the most promising and charismatic young classical guitar players. The laureate of national and international competitions has been co-operating with many acclaimed musicians and inspiring composers to write new guitar compositions.
On July 14th Liudas Mikalauskas and Bass Arco Quartet will pay a tribute to the prominent personality of Vytautas Kernagis. The performers will encourage to reveal our personal voice and music within, and to share it with other people. The quartet made of cellos and a double bass will make a good company for Mikalauskas’s voice and definitely pull on your heart strings.
According to the singer, this programme is equally rewarding both to the audience and performers. Songs like “Baltas paukštis” (The White Bird), “Mūsų dienos kaip šventė” (Our days are like a holiday), “Giedu giesmelę” (I sing a song), “Vasara” (Summer), “Išeinu” (I’m leaving) – these are only a few simply irresistible songs.
On July 21st the charming pianist Guoda Gedvilaitė will manipulate her instrument as if it were a large orchestra. Character and beautiful sound, elegance and seemingly effortless performance – these are her distinguishing features. The programme “Dashing Elegance” will surely help reveal the best qualities of her musicianship. The freshness and vitality of her art will take the listeners on a fantastic tour of piano sounds.
On July 28th “An evening with Petras and the Quintet” offers a meeting of virtuoso saxophonist and masterful improviser Petras Vyšniauskas with the Klaipėda Brass Quintet in an entertaining programme, ranging from Baroque pieces to jazz. The exceptional musicianship and arresting stage presence of Vyšniauskas will inspire and kindle creative energies not only in the audience but also in his stage partners.
The semi-staged musical and gastronomical “Operatic Pastiche” will be served in the evening of August 11th. Singers Diana Tiškovaitė, Agnė Sabulytė, Jonas Sakalauskas and project’s music director Vytautas Lukočius, who will accompany on the piano, will reveal the secrets of the artistic synthesis of music and cookery. This curious programme presents a combination of popular operatic arias and duets and the making and tasting of the real pâté. “Cookery is also a form of creativity,” says Agnė who is going to prepare the pâté on stage.
When the Summer Concert Series will be over, we will let the muses to be silent for a while, until the wind of change will bring us a fresh gust of new music from September 19th onwards.
We wish you amusing summer Saturdays with music!
