We all know what the Lithuanian folk tale “The Cat and the Rooster” is about. It teaches us not to be too credulous, not to succumb to flattery and guile, but to value friendship and, in doing so, to use our imagination and wits. How did the cat manage to free the rooster from the fox’s house? He starts to play the violin and wheedles the fox out! Thus the music helps rescue the rooster!
This amusing musical shadow play will be performed by the members of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra who will not only habitually play their instruments, but also impersonate various characters and operate puppets. The latter were made by Gintarė Radvilavičiūtė, puppet theatre the director and designer. Music was composed by Teisutis Makačinas.
The premiere of this musical performance took place in May this year and received very enthusiastic responses. In November it will be shown not only in Klaipėda but also in Vilnius, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall.
Episode nineteen in “The Orchestra of Playful Music” series promises a very entertaining and elucidating spectacle. You are most welcome!
