The 31st Festival “Klaipėda Music Spring”

“Klaipėda Music Spring” – the magnificent sound of classics.
The oldest music festival of Lithuania, that has been started in 1976, invites the melomans for the 31st time. This year for the first time it is dedicated to the projects of classical music of exclusively major forms. Concerts of the festival that distinguish for their expressivity, majesty and effectiveness are the vigorous sally of classical music and power of awakening spring!
In the program of the 31st “Klaipėda Music Spring” – 11 events: 8 concerts and 3 video clubs.
One of the main principles of the program constitution was not only to preserve the exclusive and attractive features of the festival that formed during the three decades of the festival but also to bring them up-to-date. It is:
• Attention to classical, academic music,
• harmonious synthesis of traditions and novelties,
• performance of the most famous performers from Klaipėda, Lithuania and abroad.
There also the underlying educational direction of KCH activity, that fosters the young listener, is continued.
Guests of the Festival – the great symphony orchestras of Lithuania
Composition of Bronius Kutavičius “The Gaieties of the Spring” performed by Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will open the festival. Piano virtuoso Alexander Palei (USA) that is called to be “demoniac pianist” will perform the expressive concerts for piano and orchestra by Ludvig van Beethoven. The concerts will be conducted by the orchestra Art Director and the Chief Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius.
Symphony orchestra and choir of Klaipėda State Music Theatre together with soloists prepared spectacular program of the compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Piotr Tchaikovskij. The young conductor Dainius Pavilionis will lead the program.
Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the Art Director and the Chief Conductor Juozas Domarkas will fill the space of the concert hall with the powerful concluding accords of the festival. Violoncellist Danjulo Ichizaka, the one who recently was awarded with the prize of “The Best Young Performer of the year” for the virtuosity, exclusive mastership and artistic charisma, will play with the orchestra.
Tradition of the Festival – striking concerts of the chamber orchestras
Talented violinist Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker will play the virtuoso compositions of the romanticist composers with Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra conducted by Robertas Šervenikas, laureate of the National premium.
In the concert of St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra of Vilnius that is ascribable to the absolute musical elite of Lithuania the compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach and the classics of the 20th century music will be performed. Conductor – Art Director of the orchestra Donatas Katkus, soloist – Vytenis Giknius (flute).
Ensemble of Vilhelmas Čepinskis “Camerata Klaipėda” and Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras” under the leadership of Alfonsas Vildžiūnas will perform in the festival the outstanding score of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart “Kronungsmesse” and other compositions. The winner of prestigious G. Fitelberg conductor contest and the prizeman of the golden medal Modestas Pitrėnas will conduct the concert.
On the stage of the Festival – operas from LNOBT repertoire for grown-ups and children
Students of LNOBT opera studio produced the popular opera by Piotr Tchaikovskij “Eugene Onegin”, in which poetry of A. Pushkin novel in verse is inwrought with the music brimful with dramatism of experience. The head of the students is the famous singer and vocal pedagogue Virgilijus Noreika, conductor – Vytautas Viržonis.
Extraordinary project of the festival is dedicated to the young listeners. Little opera for the children Rasa Dikčienė’s “Musician, devil and the Thunderer” and “Clip-clop Clip-clop” (“Kabaldakšt kabaldakšt”, according to the Lithuanian folk fairy-tales) are performed by the children themselves – by the students of Vilnius artistic education studio “Diemedis” and Tuskulėnai secondary school.
Video clubs of the Festival – for the most open and curious citizens of Klaipėda
In the three events of the video club of the festival that will take place in the foyer of the 1st floor, KCH, we will become better acquainted with the exceptional creators and performers of classical music. Musicologist Laima Vilimienė will quest for the secrets of genius and solve the complicated “Algorithm of Mozart’s genius”. Musicologist Beata Baublinskienė will narrate about the prima donna of Lithuanian opera Violeta Urmana, whose wonderful voice sounds on the stages of the most famous opera theatres throughout the world. Young and talented pianist Kasparas Uinskas will present his debut compact disc (by the way, recorded in Klaipėda Concert Hall) that is dedicated to the music of Fryderyk Chopin and will tell us about the great pianists of the world.
