“SALVE MUSICA” – FOR YOU!
For the third year, the festival “SALVE MUSICA” presents a bouquet of festive classic concerts. It will revive your souls and thoughts and will fill your hearts with the spirit of Christmas!
The festival “SALVE MUSICA” takes place at the Klaipeda Concert Hall December 5th – 31st, 2007 / Programme /
Festival opening with “Intimate music”
The festival opens with the highly successful project from the Vilnius Festival in which three famous contemporary Lithuanian musicians perform together – Vytautas Juozapaitis (baritone), Petras Geniušas (piano), Linas Rimša (composer). There will be classical pieces devoted to love - Gustav Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wayfarer), Maurice Ravel’s Trois chansons de Don Quichotte à Dulcinée (Three songs of Don Quixote to Dulcinea) and a post modern piece by Lithuanian composer L. Rimša “Intimacy”. The favourite pieces of the two performers will be changed and transformed combining them with modern styles of today’s music. This musical drama will be followed by a visual interpretation created by two video artists - Džiugas Katinas and Rimas Sakalauskas. (5th December)
The characters of Astrid Lingren in a lively musical tale for all family
The characters from the books by the classic Swedish authoress Astrid Lindgren follow us from early childhood – Karlsson on the Roof, Pippi Longstocking, The Brothers Lionheart and Ronnia, the Robber’s Daughter. Children and adults will be taken by this cheerful musical story.
A story for all family has been created by a team of well known artists - Violeta Palčinskaitė (scenario), Giedrius Kuprevičius (composer), Nadežda Gultiajeva (artist), Modestas Pitrėnas (conductor) and will be performed by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, a group of boys and youth choir “Ąžuoliukas”, soloists and actors. (7th December)

“Pictures at an exhibition”
This jazz project has been initiated by the well-known jazz pianist Sauliaus Šiaučiulis. It is based on Modest Mussorgsky’s suite “Pictures at an exhibition”. Additional force to the original piano version will be added by saxophones, a string quartet and percussions. As S. Šiaučiulis tells us, the “Vilnius String Quartet are no strangers to performing classical pieces in jazz style; they play precisely. Bright colour is also given to this project by the saxophone improvisations (Danielius Praspaliauskis and Liudas Mockūnas)”.
In a first part of the concert well-known jazz artists will perform classical jazz pieces. (13th December)
“Kaleidoscope of the Year”
The artistic leader and conductor of the chamber choir “Aidija”, Romualdas Gražinis, named their program “Kaleidoscope of the Year’. The main work of their 19th December concert will be Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols”. Often heard in many countries at this time of year, it will have a special accent in Klaipeda being performed with the unusual combination of choir and harp. (Agnė Keblytė).
In the second part of kaleidoscope the musical journey will start from Klaipeda region with an old folk song, through retrospective of classical potpourri up to the bright jubilation of carols. (19th December)
“Christmas Meetings“
A programme of pieces performed by two of the festivals most honoured guests, Daishin Kashimoto (violin, Japan) and Mūza Rubackytė (piano, Lithuania – France). This exceptional pair will perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, César Franck, Antonín Dvořák, Fritz Kreisler and Astor Piazzolla. (27th December)
Festival Tradition – Free concerts
As is becoming a tradition of the festival, listeners are invited to three performances for free:
On Christmas day (December 25th) and on the New Year’s night (December 31st) at midnight the carillon bells of the Klaipeda Clock museum will ring again, performed by Kęstutis Kačinskas and Stasys Žilevičius, celebrating Christmas and the New Year.
At the Klaipėda Kristus Karalius (Christ the King) Church the choir “Aukuras” (conductor and artistic director Alfonsas Vildžiūnas) will perform Christmas Carols (December 29th).
A New Year’s concert by “Camerata Klaipeda”
A New Year’s concert by “Camerata Klaipeda” has become a tradition of the festival. This ensemble led by Vilhelmas Čepinskis will perform together with famous Russian musician Boris Andrianov (celo). The laureat of international competitions today lives in the USA. (30th December)
Playful “The Sincopated clock” for New Year’s Eve
“The Sincopated clock” playfully will count down the last minutes of the year 2007. A full of surprises programme, consisting of classical pieces and modern rythms, joyfull and bright, will be performed by the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and conducted by inventive Mindaugas Piečaitis. Special guest of the evening will be Sandra Janušaitė (soprano), soloist of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. The evening will be led by witty actor Andrius Bialobžeskis. The Ballet dancers of the Klaipėda Music Theatre - Beata Molytė–Kulikauskienė, Ričardas Jankevičius, Galina Gaifulina and Aleksandra Kareckienė - will be taken by whirlpool waltzes of Johann Straus.
