Festival of festive classics „Salve Musica”
One more year passed and the festival “Salve Musica” greets you for the fourth time and gives you a bunch of concerts of festive classics. We hope this will give a resuscitation to your soul and senses, and your heart will be filled with Christmas spirit. Let the music be with you on the most beautiful holiday of the year!
The festival “Salve Musica” will take place in the Klaipėda Concert Hall on 3rd - 31st of December in 2008. / Programme /
For the beginning of the festival – “The Masterpieces of Russian Music”
Talented Russian musicians – Maksim Fedotov (violin) and Galina Petrova (piano) - will perform the masterpieces of Russian music. The arrangements of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Musorgskij, Nikolaj Rimsky-Korsakov, Aleksandr Borodin compositions will be played.
Virtuoso of violin M. Fedotov is the II prize winner of P. Tchaikovsky international contest, winner of the gold medal and all special prizes of Tokyo contests. European press called him “The Russian Paganini”. By the way, M. Fedotov impersonated the famous Italian violinist in a film.
M. Fedotov and his wife G. Petrova – the pianist – will perform “The Masterpieces of Russian Music”. The duet of these two artists is considered to be one of the most harmonic duets. It stands out with individual style, dynamics and exclusive repertoire.
“The Refined Classics” for cello and orchestra
On the 5th of December, the programme “Refined Classics” will be peformed. It was produced by The Christopher Chamber Orchestra, which is lead and conducted by Donatas Katkus. Composer Krzysztof Penderecki called the German soloist Ivan Monighetti the “phenomenal violoncellist”. The versatile virtuoso of violoncello was the last student of M. Rostropovich in the Moscow Conservatory. I. Monighetti inherited the main artistic principles from his teacher.
The Christopher Chamber Orchestra, which has got many admirers in Klaipėda, stands out by extraordinary universality of style: from baroque to modernism, from jazz to “the music of bulldozers”. The widest range of sounds in the performance of orchestra sounds refreshingly and persuasively. Undoubtedly, it is also a merit of the colourful D. Katkus personality.
“The Pasion of Stings and the Temperament of Percussions”
On the 12th of December, especially for the festival, the project of Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and the ensemble “Giunter Percussion” (Pavel Giunter, Tomas Kulikauskas, Viktoras Mogilo – Žano, Gediminas Mačiulskis) will breath the pasion of strings and heat with the temperament of percussion. They will welcome the audience in the first part of the concert.
In the beginning of the second part of the concert, “Madrid Night Music” by Luigi Boccherini, will take us to Spain. Where’as “Carmen – Siuita” story about love and death, created on the basis of fragments of Georges Bizet opera, recomposed for Rodion Shchedrin for string instruments and percussion, will demonstrate all colours of emotions. Powerful gestures of Maestro M. Pitrėnas will manage all this.
“The Romantic Quartet and the Piano”
We will spend the evening of 18th of December by listening to romantic and beautiful music of Fryderyk Chopin and Johannes Brahms. Vilnius String Qartet (Audronė Vainiūnaitė, Artūras Šilalė, Girdutis Jakaitis ir Augustinas Vasiliauskas) will perform together with the pianist Tamami Honma (Japan – USA).
When T. Honma was five years old, she has won national pianists’ contest of Tokyo. After that, she moved to the USA and became a winner of many contests. Her recordings received awards from “Grammophone” and “BBC Music Magazine”.
T. Honma has been a great friend of Lithuanian music for many years. She has played piano in Klaipėda for a few times.
Vilnius String Quartet makes the musical culture of our country famous in international prestigeous occasions and always receives criticism and appreciation of the audience.
“The Day Will Come When Our Hearts Will Flame”
We believe that on the 19th of December it will happen. These prophetic words will sound in the air from the opera by Gian Carlo Manotti, which will be performed by Lithuania National Symphonic Orchestra together with Nomeda Kazlauskaitė – Kazlaus.
She is considered to be one of the most famous opera singers of the young generation of Lithuania. N. Kazlauskaitė – Kazlaus is the laureate of the Young Composer Prize and various international contests. She performs in prestigeous European theatres, concert halls and festivals and receives admirable appreciation.
More than that, the symphonic fragments of operas will sound in the interpretation of LNSO conducted by Maestro Juozas Domarkas.
Free Concerts of Bells and Sacred Music
Joyful news, announced by bells, spreads in a special way. This year, Klaipėda Carillon invites to Christmas (on 25th of December) and New Year (on 31st of December) concerts. Kęstutis Kačinskas and Stays Žilevičius will play with the bells.
On the 27th of December, The Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras“ and Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra will perform the program of „Christmas music“ in the Kretinga catholic church. The fragments from „Christmas Oratory“ by Camille Saint-Saëns, famous and favourite carols will sound in the program of Christmas music. Tomas Ambrozaitis will be the conductor.
"Romantic Reminiscence"
Traditionally, the orchestra „Camerata Klaipėda“ performs in Klaipėda on the last days of the year. The ensemble, lead by Vilhelmas Čepinskis, called their performance, which will take place on the 28th of December, "Romantic Reminiscence" and dedicated it to the anniversary of Eugène Ysaÿe – one of the greatest virtuoso and composer of the past. More than this, the works of Ernest Chausson, Niccolò Paganini, Fryderyk Chopin, George Gershwin will be played on this evening. The pianist Guoda Gedvilaitė will perform the solo part in the concert. She’ll perform together with the violinist V. Čepinskis. It is said, that she gets through the most complex technical difficulties very easily and as it seems that effortlessly. She attracts the attention of the public and critics by her extraordinary and spontaneous musical ideas.
“A New Year’s Jazz Fairy-tale” will accompany us to the New Year
An extraordinary personality, a master of polystylish’s expression, saxophonist, composer Jan Maksimovich and his group: Dominykas Vyšniauskas (trumpet, flugelhorn), Dmitrij Golovanov (piano), Vytis Nivinskas (double bass), Gediminas Augustaitis (percussion) - prepares this festive program of the 31st of December. The actor and singer Bigita Bublytė will help the jazz-men to tell the “Fairy-tale”.
“The Fairy-tale of New Year jazz” will take you to the world of fabulous sounds, that breathe the pasion, love and mystery. Not everything goes simply and fluently in the fairy-tale, therefore, it won’t be easy to make the dreams come true – one will have to fight for them. But after all, this jazz fairy-tale will bring us the New Year full of brightness.
