Classical guitars, a double bass, wind instruments, baroque and rock? Yes, indeed! The Baltic Guitar Quartet, presented to foreign audiences as the leading guitar ensemble in the Baltic States, is ready as it will ever be to enrapture listeners not only by its distinct sound but also by its innovative repertoire. This time four adventurous guitarists will team up with double bassist Vytis Nyvinskas who has navigated through quite a few legendary jazz haunts in New York City and saxophonist Remigijus Rančys who has a reputation of a stylistically versatile musician.
Formed in 2004, the Baltic Guitar Quartet boasts an illustrious history, with performances in twenty countries around the globe and appearances in the world’s major concert venues. In its current programme “BaRock” the ensemble has beautifully combined the episodes from Vivaldi’s “Winter” concerto and pieces by classic rock band Metallica. On their way from Baroque to rock, the four talented musicians will seize an opportunity to visit the territories of traditional music (including flamenco and Balcan music), jazz (represented by the arrangements of Miles Davis’s standards) and art music (in the person of ensemble’s member Chris Ruebens).
