FREEDOM is our most precious gift. It is only in a free country that we have the freedom of expression and movement and not only within our own country but also beyond. It is also our inner freedom that nurtures our ability to reason and create.
All of the previously curtailed freedoms were reinstated after the declaration of Lithuania’s independence thirty years ago. This makes March 11th one of the momentous dates in our country’s history. It holds a special place in the hearts of those who witnessed the period of Soviet occupation and the subsequent political upheaval. It is also an important date for those who were born after 1990 – the year that marks the beginning of new social order where people had unrestricted freedom of choice as to what and where they prefer to study or work and in what ways they would attain self-realization.
With reverence for our nation’s history, firm in unity and rich with wisdom, we are all on the road of creation of our State. On the night before this big date, we invite you to attend the Chapel of St Francis of Assisi and listen to the astounding oratorio The Altar of Divine Mercy by Algirdas Martinaitis. While listening to this divine music, let us feel the strength of our nation in unity! Let the noblest feelings unite our hearts and grand thoughts accompany us on our paths! All this is given to us by FREEDOM!
