The magnificent sound of classics will culminate with the Latvian Opera Gala. The Latvian National Opera Symphony Orchestra will make its first appearance in Klaipėda together with five opera soloists. The programme to be conducted by the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB), Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, will feature Jūlija Vasiļjeva, Inga Šļubovska-Kancēviča (sopranos), Ilona Bagele (mezzo-soprano), Raimonds Bramanis (tenor) and Rihards Mačanovskis (bass-baritone). All of them appear in the leading roles at the LNOB and enjoy successful careers as some of the company’s brightest stars, who have already earned wide acclaim, both at home and away, in opera productions and in concerts.
Quite a few opera singers have embarked on their international careers at the opera house located in central Riga and risen to stardom on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York or major opera houses in Europe. While paying tribute to the traditional values of classical and Romantic operas and ballets that are the cornerstones of its repertoire, the LNOB continually strives to seek contemporary forms of expression. The LNOB’s stage regularly resounds with successful productions of modern operatic and ballet masterpieces, children’s performances, and original Latvian works. It presents no less than five new productions of operas and ballets every season.
Mārtiņš Ozoliņš combines his position as the musical director of the LNOB with frequent conducting engagements in Latvia and abroad. As a keen performer of contemporary music, he has presented programmes for the contemporary music festivals “Gaida” in Vilnius and “Music of Changes” in Klaipėda.
The gala will feature the finest selection of arias and orchestral fragments from the operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Piotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninov, Charles Gounod, Camille Saint-Saëns and Georges Bizet.
Let’s breathe in life from the classical masterpieces and get revived with the awakening nature!
