Programme: rhythm games using body percussion, works for percussion instruments by contemporary composers

It is for the third time that the “Music of Changes” festival opens the door to the little listeners. The educational programme “Rhythm Games” combines to art forms – music and theatre. The latter will be represented by actors Rugilė Latvėnaitė and Simonas Lunevičius whose performance will add playfulness, attractiveness and accessibility to this programme. Together with percussionist Ingrida Spalinskaitė-Kurienė, they will introduce percussion instruments and demonstrate their most prominent qualities. Children will be encouraged to take active part in this programme by playing and acting themselves. Having tried various instruments and learned about rhythm, they are expected to make music themselves, develop a taste for and a better understanding of music.

The theme of the third edition of “Rhythm Games” is changes of rhythm during the year when autumn comes after summer; then winter falls and so forth. Rhythm is the basis of all music, thus by way of learning to play simple rhythms children are ushered into the wider world of sounds. They are encouraged to explore what sounds and rhythms can be heard in our everyday environment and in the nature throughout the year. The programme will feature actors reciting poems written by Lithuanian poets, with clear rhythmic patterns and easily memorisable texts. Based on these poems, various characters will be created, inviting to play music together with the actors.
