We invite our young listeners, along with their parents, to the staged family concert “Star Wars Suite.” We believe that the title that refers to the famous sound track by one of the greatest American film composers of all time will attract not only kids but also their elder family members to this concert, presented by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Karolis Variakojis.
The iconic Star Wars film series has been around for more than forty years and gathered an impressive following of fans across several generations of viewers. Since its launch in 1977, it became one of the most enduring pop culture touchstones, spawning a multimedia empire that includes television shows, novels, comics, video games, and of course more movies.
The composer of music for this seemingly endless saga, John Williams (b. 1932), is regarded as one of the greatest American film composers of all time. He has composed music for many popular and critically acclaimed movies, including Schindler’s List, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone and Home Alone. Lost in New York, and the first three Harry Potter films. Other works by Williams include theme music for four Olympics. Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards and 21 Grammy Awards.
Music for Star Wars consists of a total of over 18 hours of music. Williams has written approximately fifty themes, which makes it a unique case in the history of film music. The US Library of Congress has included Star Wars soundtrack in the National Recording Registry as “culturally, historically, and aesthetically important” work.
