Free Sound

In free improvisation, the instrument rarely remains the same as the one we are accustomed to hearing. In the programme Free Sound, pianist Paula Bagotyriūtė, saxophonist Kornelijus Pukinskis, and bassist and guitarist Deividas Skridaila invite audiences to experience instruments as constantly evolving sources of sound. Prepared piano, prepared guitar, and saxophone reveal unexpected timbres, textures, and acoustic colours, while each performer expands the conventional boundaries of their instrument in their own way.

The musicians, who are active in the fields of contemporary improvisational and experimental music, bring diverse creative experiences to the performance — ranging from contemporary music, jazz, and interdisciplinary projects to sound experiments and free improvisation. These different artistic paths converge in a shared musical process, where each performer retains their individual voice while remaining highly responsive to the ideas created by others.

Free Sound therefore invites listeners not only to experience improvisation, but also to witness how constantly transforming sounds open up ever-new possibilities for musical dialogue.
