Over the past several decades, percussion music has become one of the fastest-growing fields of contemporary concert music. Composers are increasingly expanding the possibilities of percussion, exploring new timbres, unexpected instrument combinations, and innovative performance techniques. Lithuanian percussionists Pavel Giunter and Sigitas Gailius, together with one of Latvia’s most prominent percussion performers, Guntars Freibergs, present a programme featuring some of the most important works in the contemporary percussion repertoire.

In compositions by Tomer Yariv (Gyro), Nebojša Jovan Živković (Trio per Uno), Minoru Miki (Marimba Spiritual), Gene Koshinski, John Psathas, and Ney Rosauro, different worlds of percussion are revealed. In some works, music is built from pulsating rhythms and precise ensemble interplay; in others, the focus shifts to timbre, sonic space, and constantly evolving musical tension. This programme presents percussion instruments as independent creators of musical narratives, capable of captivating audiences not only through rhythmic energy but also through a subtle diversity of sound.

Pavel Giunter, Sigitas Gailius, and Guntars Freibergs are active performers as soloists, members of chamber ensembles, and interpreters of contemporary music, collaborating with orchestras and festivals in Lithuania and abroad. The meeting of these three Baltic musicians in this programme offers an opportunity to experience one of the most compelling directions in today’s percussion repertoire, where virtuosity, ensemble precision, and a continuous search for new sonic possibilities merge into a unified musical narrative.
