Moving Sound

Šeiko Dance Theatre is one of the most prominent contemporary dance companies in Lithuania, based in Klaipėda since 2012. Led by choreographer Agnija Šeiko, the theatre is distinguished by its unique aesthetic, interdisciplinary works, and continuous exploration of new forms of stage expression. The theatre’s productions are presented both in Lithuania and on international stages, while the artists’ work has been recognised with major performing arts awards, including the Golden Stage Cross and other Lithuanian theatre honours.

Together with the dancers, Lithuanian Ensemble Network (LENsemble), led by composer and conductor Vykintas Baltakas, appears in Moving Sound. This contemporary music ensemble brings together professional performers to create new works and explore unconventional concert experiences. Baltakas’s artistic activities encompass composition, conducting, and active participation in the international contemporary music scene.

Within the festival programme, these artists present SIMPLEXITY by Belgian composer, filmmaker, and interdisciplinary artist Thierry De Mey. For the composer, it is not only the sound itself that matters, but also the way it comes into being — the performer’s movement, the impulse of the body, physical energy, and the visible process of musical creation.

The title SIMPLEXITY encodes a tension between simplicity and complexity. The work explores how complex structures can emerge from simple gestures and movements, how precisely organised actions can transform into music, and how the body becomes an inseparable part of the score. Here, dancers and musicians are not separate worlds; they function as a single mechanism in which every movement carries a sonic meaning and every sound takes on a physical form.

The audience is invited to observe not only the final result but also the very process of music coming into existence: the breathing, tension, movement, and live responses of the performers. Moving Sound reveals music as an action — a visible, physical, and constantly evolving process in which the body becomes one of the most essential instruments.
