Song of the Soul

National Prize for Culture and Arts laureate Petras Vyšniauskas is one of Lithuania’s most distinguished musicians, whose artistic journey has continuously crossed the boundaries between different musical worlds. A jazz saxophonist, improviser, composer, and guardian of Lithuanian musical traditions, he has spent decades developing a unique musical language where improvisation, classical music, jazz, and folklore meet. One evening his saxophone may blend with the melody of a folk song; another, it may resonate alongside world-renowned jazz masters or a symphony orchestra. His sound combines vitality, lyricism, and the ability to transform every musical phrase into a unique story.

In the programme “Sielos daina” (“Song of the Soul”), P. Vyšniauskas’ creative freedom will unfold alongside composers whose music is also marked by a distinctive artistic voice. The pulse of Ástor Piazzolla’s tango, the Nordic jazz colours of Jan Magne Førde, and the spirit of South African music embedded in Abdullah Ibrahim’s melodies will merge into a unified musical narrative, where each composition becomes a unique song of the soul – a story told without words.

The musical dialogue between Klaipėda Brass Quintet and P. Vyšniauskas will bring new timbral colours to this programme. The combination of saxophone and brass instruments will offer a fresh perspective on familiar works, while the freedom of improvisation and the energy created by the performers in the moment will transform each piece into an unforgettable musical experience.
