Shooting Stars I: American Music

The festival kicks off with the stellar programme prepared by the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and young Lithuanian conductor Adrija Čepaitė who has made a name for herself by appearing as guest conductor with many orchestras in Lithuania, Germany and Switzerland. She says, “this programme focuses on the music of the most prominent American composers of today. It encapsulates both a fickleness of the present time and a soothing unity.”

Among the highlights of the programme are the premiere of David Lang’s version of the national anthems for choir and orchestra, written especially for the festival, and Philip Glass’s Tirol Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.
