Video Sound: short film

The camera can do more than simply observe — it can also listen. It can follow the pulse of music, move closer to a barely perceptible gesture, highlight the performer’s movement, or reveal what often goes unnoticed. Sergej Bezuglov, a director and filmmaker working in the field of Klaipėda’s audiovisual culture and across short films, documentaries, and other cinematic formats, presents a programme that invites audiences to experience music from a different perspective — through the language of cinema, where rhythm, editing, image, and sound create a unique score of their own. In his creative practice, visual storytelling holds a special place, as does the ability of the camera to capture not only action, but also rhythm, movement, and invisible states of being.

The programme’s audiovisual works reveal different ways of seeing music. One of its highlights is the work of Belgian composer and filmmaker Thierry De Mey. In his films, the camera follows music with the same attentiveness as the ear follows sound. It captures performers’ movements, choreography, and rhythm, allowing music to unfold on screen from a new perspective. Alongside De Mey’s work, the programme also presents creations by Lithuanian composers, including works by Mykolas Natalevičius, exploring the expression of contemporary music and its relationship with other media.
