Established in 1965, the eternally youthful and ever-evolving Vilnius String Quartet invites listeners to delve into chamber music masterpieces that reveal the deepest emotions of their composers, spanning exactly a century.
Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major, a classic of chamber music, was composed in 1828, while the renowned Czech composer Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet “Intimate Letters”, reflecting his unfulfilled love for a much younger woman, was written in 1928—both works coinciding with the composers’ final years.
The programme also includes Schubert’s String Quartet in C Minor, a single-movement piece first performed posthumously in 1867, thanks to Johannes Brahms’s initiative.
