Café Music and Other Music
Meta Piano Trio:
Marija Pranskutė (violin), Deividas Dumčius (cello), Julija Bagdonavičiūtė (piano)
Programme: Joseph Haydn, Paul Schoenfield, Ástor Piazzolla, Loreta Narvilaitė
“Café Music and Other Music” is the title of a programme presented by the Meta Piano Trio. The ensemble made of three young gifted musicians is highly praised by the critics for its exquisite coordination and deep sound. All members of the trio have not only been awarded prizes in numerous international competitions but also acquired considerable experience as chamber musicians and soloists.
This programme, according to the performers, “shows the genre of piano trio from different perspectives. In the beginning, we are going to perform the playful, classically wrought Piano Trio in C major by Joseph Haydn. We will continue with the rarely performed piece Café Music by American composer Paul Schoenfield. The work’s title neatly describes its prevalent mood: it is a kind of high-class dinner music, which has a strong feel of jazz and swing that can be sensed and grips the attention right from the first bars.
We also pay tribute to Lithuanian music in this programme. Pamatyk jūrą tolumoje (See the Sea in the Distance), a piece by Loreta Narvilaitė, was written in Klaipėda, with constant undulation and searching, a state of wavering and uncertainty, in mind. This motif of the sea will transport us to the distant land – Argentina – and to a closing piece in this programme. Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires), written by Argentine composer Ástor Piazzolla, will round off this concert with the music strongly flavoured with tango rhythms and southern temperament.
We hope everyone will find music to one’s liking in this programme featuring different periods, styles and moods.
