On Divine Mercy Sunday (Second Sunday of Easter) the two collectives from two different Lithuanian cities will join their forces in the performance of sacred works and in the atmosphere of joyful celebration. The Klaipėda Choir Aukuras (Artistic Director and Conductor Alfonsas Vildžiūnas) and the Kaunas Wind Orchestra Ąžuolynas (Chief Conductor Giedrius Vaznys) invite us to experience spiritual renewal while listening to the sacred music under the vaults of the Klaipėda Church of St. Francis of Assisi. The programme will be conducted by young conductor Giedrius Vaznys who is currently active in both cities.
The programme will feature a selection of sacred hymns by Lithuanian and foreign composers. A solemn and propitious concert will be rounded off with Missa brevis (2002) for choir and wind band by Dutch composer Jacob de Haan.
"We interpret spiritual and emotional music with utmost precision and professionalism," declares Giedrius Vaznys, Chief Conductor of the Kaunas Wind Orchestra Ąžuolynas, speaking of his attitude towards the music the orchestra performs. His opinion is shared by Alfonsas Vildžiūnas, Artistic Director of the Klaipėda Choir Aukuras, who describes choral singing as the most sublime music of the soul.
