We at the Klaipėda Concert Hall place great emphasis on educational projects and concerts for kids, youth, and their families. We do our best to make these projects as attractive and diverse as we can. The Klaipėda Brass Quintet takes an active part in shaping our programme of educational events. In autumn 2018 the Quintet launched a new series of educational concerts entitled “Play with the Quintet.” These concerts feature the most talented pupils from Klaipėda and Western Lithuania playing on a variety of instruments. Artistic Director of the Quintet, Sigitas Petrulis, managed to invite a dedicated team of music teachers and their pupils.

According to Petrulis, “with the second programme in the ‘Play with the Quintet’ series we move a step further towards a better understanding of what is specific about a brass quintet, its sound and possibilities. In preparation for this programme it became obvious that it is not enough to pick a talented kid and a proper piece; we had to think about the arrangement, style and overall sound. I think everything worked well. We will demonstrate some rare combination of the brass quintet and other instruments, such as the piano, the violin, and even the Lithuanian folk instrument kanklės.”

Curiously enough, all members of the Klaipėda Brass Quintet themselves – Sigitas Petrulis (trumpet), Jonas Katauskas (trumpet), Monika Miliauskienė (horn), Arvydas Stakvilevičius (trombone) and Vidmantas Liasis (tuba) – are the graduates of the Klaipėda Stasys Šimkus Conservatory.
