Description
This programme presented by the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra offers an abundance of first performances. In collaboration with the Lithuanian Composers’ Union, the orchestra will introduce the world premiere of new work for solo cello and strings by Marius Baranauskas and the Lithuanian premiere of Hommage à Beethoven for string orchestra by Donatas Prusevičius.

In the past few years, the name of Žibuoklė Martinaitytė has been heard many times in various places of the world among the winners of prestigious awards and scholarships. A couple of years ago her new piece Sielunmaisema was premiered in Klaipėda during “The Music of Changes” Festival by the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, which is going to perform, for the first time in Klaipėda, her Chiaroscuro Trilogy for piano and strings. The solo piano part will be entrusted this time to Petras Geniušas who is widely recognised for his charismatic appearances.

American composer David Lang, a winner of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award, visited Klaipėda in 2017. Our festival keeps up the acquaintance with his work by including his Prayers for night and sleep for soprano, cello, percussion and strings into the programme this year. The wonderful soprano, Lina Dambrauskaitė, and the ingenious Artistic Director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Mindaugas Bačkus, will be heard in the solo parts.

The programme will be conducted by Adrija Čepaitė. A gifted conductor and performer of Gregorian chant, founder of the Graces & Voices Vocal Ensemble based in Graz, she collaborates with many Lithuanian orchestras but it is the first time she has the opportunity to conduct the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra.
