In Klaipėda, which was named Lithuania’s capital of the cello in 2017, no one is indifferent to this instrument. But when as much as five cellos meet on a stage, we are up to something really extraordinary!

The Cello Club, an ensemble formed in 2020, consists of five professional cellists: Povilas Jacunskas, Domas Jakštas, Arnas Kmieliauskas, Evaldas Petkus, and Rokas Vaitkevičius. They will close the KCH’s Summer Concert Series with the programme “The Company Cello Club”, featuring the arrangements of classical, contemporary, minimalist works and jazz compositions for five cellos.

The inspiration for the Cello Club ensemble came from a popular trend in Western Europe to form homogeneous ensembles, which become the ambassadors of certain instruments and cultural traditions. All five members of the Cello Club are active participants of the Lithuanian music scene.

The distinctive characteristic of the Cello Club is the democratic principle by which every member of the ensemble can become leader and soloist depending on the repertoire. The very name of the ensemble means openness towards the choice of the repertoire and combination of instruments. No wonder they can easily jump from serious art music over jazz to popular classics and pop in even one programme, blurring the boundaries between serious art and light-hearted entertainment.
