Description
The programme under this title is presented by the New Ideas Chamber Orchestra (NICO) and the Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras”. This is the first time that the two groups – one from Vilnius and the other from Klaipėda – will meet each other on the stage.
The New Ideas Chamber Orchestra (NICO) is a group of seven string players formed in 2006 by composer and conductor Gediminas Gelgotas. The uniqueness of NICO’s concept is determined by his musical language, in which the classical music idiom is mixed with light hints and influences of popular music. Their captivating and original performances often integrate minimalistic choreography and lighting effects, while the musicians play music by heart, using non-traditional instrumental techniques and voice, all of it combined into an exciting concert experience that reinvents the boundaries between experimental, minimal, contemporary art and more popular, mainstream music forms.
In this programme NICO will team up with the Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras” under the artistic leadership of Alfonsas Vildžiūnas to perform music written for choir and strings. The programme will also feature works by the artistic leader of the NICO, which form the basis of the orchestra’s repertoire, and the work by young composer from Klaipėda Ieva Parnarauskaitė, which lent its title to the whole programme. The latter was specially arranged for choir and strings.
