Held as part of the KIVA, the Suzuki Cello Workshop “Me, the Cello and My Family” aims to introduce the cello to the families in Klaipėda and encourage adults to learn playing the instrument together with their children. Participants of the workshop were tutored by the president of the Lithuanian Suzuki Association, cellist and teacher Valdas Povilaitis. Together with the pupils of his Cello School, he took part in the 1st Klaipėda International Cello Festival last year.

In his work as a cello teacher Povilaitis has successfully adopted and applied a method created by Japanese violinist and teacher Shinichi Suzuki, which hinges on basic idea that every child, if properly taught, is capable of learning in a loving and encouraging environment. The adults should be also motivated by the idea that it is never too late to learn to play music.

This concert is themed as family concert, in which children play cellos together with their parents. The youngest participant is a toddler of almost five years old. The idea behind this event is to instil cultural values in the families; to create a social environment based on loving relationships, exposure to art, sensitivity and positive communication.
