Get to know the anatomy of the cello! 2018

 Klaipėda International Violoncello Academy

28 June - 6 July

Description

Get to know the anatomy of the cello! is a motto of the First Klaipėda International Violoncello Academy, or KIVA, encouraging and inviting young and aspiring cellists to expand their knowledge of the instrument’s possibilities and their own abilities. It will extend the ideas of the First Klaipėda International Violoncello Festival and Competition held last year. The Festival and Competition drew exceptional attention and earned rave reviews to become one of the largest and most successful events held in Klaipėda that was announced Lithuanian Capital of Culture in 2017. In an attempt to expand the cello music traditions and improve professional skills of young performers it was decided to organise the International Violoncello Academy. For a period of nine days the port city will be engulfed by the beautiful sounds of the violoncello.

Mainly aimed at young and talented cellists, college students and senior pupils, KIVA educational programme offers superior opportunities to excel, improve professional competencies under the tutelage of celebrated professors and enrich musical experience. The Academy is intended for participants aged between 16–30 years old. Younger children who play the cello for their pleasure without high professional goals will be accepted to Suzuki Violoncello Workshop.

Play the cello – move yourself! Participants of the KIVA can start a day at the creative movement workshop and to appear in an improvised cello and dance art night.

Listen to the violoncello – enjoy the music! The Academy’s wide and manifold programme of concerts will intrigue not only participants, but also audiences. Its objective is to generate positive social and cultural environment through cello music. Concerts will be held in various venues in Klaipėda, many of them will be free of charge.

The Klaipėda International Violoncello Academy invites to participate, behold and listen!
