The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra will be conducted for the first time by the Swedish conductor Leif Karlsson. The programme will also feature the Finnish saxophone soloist, Jukka Perko. According to the orchestra’s Artistic Director, Mindaugas Bačkus, “First and foremost, we are going to present a tribute to Charlie Parker as a jazz legend, and try to connect the whole story around him. Alongside Parker, we want to make connections with composers who were influenced by jazz at the time, but not necessarily directly. I also want to include a piece by Aaron Copland and give the opportunity to clarinettist Morta Kačionaitė to play solo, because Copland fits very well with Parker in terms of ideas…”
