Boreas – the god of the northern wind in Greek mythology – gave his name to the transverse flute quartet “Boreas Quartett Bremen.” The wind, air, and breath are the primal elements that allow the flute to sound. The quartet from Bremen performs music from the 16th to the 18th centuries, written for transverse flute ensembles. The musicians play over 40 different-sized and constructed instruments! The evening “Il Flauto Magico” (“The Magic Flute”) will immerse listeners in the rich sound of the Baroque ensemble, while several 20th and 21st-century works will add a modern dimension.
All four flutists studied at the Bremen Academy of Early Music. The quartet has toured various cities in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, South Korea, and Taiwan.
