Georg Friedrich Händel, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Edvard Grieg, Frederyk Chopin, Claude Debussy, Scot Joplin, Yann Tiersen
How did the modern piano come into being? Are a piano and a pianino the same thing, or are they different instruments? What is the relationship between the piano and the harpsichord – is it a sibling, a parent, or perhaps a great-grandparent? Tomo Daukanto’s animated film on the history of the piano will answer these questions and more. Additionally, young pianists from the Klaipėda Jeronimas Kačinskas Music School and the Eduardo Balsys Arts Gymnasium will be involved. They will perform some of the most beautiful and lively pieces for piano, ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude in C major to Scott Joplin’s ragtime “The Entertainer” and music by Yann Tiersen, the composer of the film “Amélie from Montmartre.” The young musicians will also share insights about these works. The musical-animated narrative about the history of the piano will be enhanced by drawings created by children.
