The idea of this programme was born out of the desire to bring the renewed and rapidly improving Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra on stage. Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony is a great challenge for the orchestra and a long-cherished personal dream of conductor Ričardas Šumila.
According to Šumila, “the recent premiere of Richard Strauss’s opera Der Rosenkavalier at the LNOBT proved that not only the theatre orchestra, but also the soloists are capable of performing music of such complexity.” The concert will feature the overture from Der Rosenkavalier and excerpts from other composers’ operas, giving the opportunity to enjoy the excellent voices of the soloists.
