The Contemporary Music Festival "Permainų muzika" invites you once again to embrace change and new experiences! Now in its 20th year, the festival presents the finest examples of 20th and 21st-century music that have influenced changes in music history, as well as the most modern forms of expression, and introduces interactions between various art forms. The festival's program, which covers a broad context of contemporary culture, offers a rich variety of internationally significant projects, encouraging exploration of intriguing contemporary art territories and experiencing the joy of discovery.

"Stella Hermetica" is a four-part cycle created by Martynas Bialobžkis and Jonas Jurkūnas since 2007, with the third part, "Scherzo," premiering this year at the festival. According to the composers, "Stella Hermetica" represents a musical journey to a distant and hermetic star, with the hope of returning home.

In the first part of the cycle, also titled "Stella Hermetica" (2007), the composers were ceremoniously sent on a distant journey as the first Lithuanian space explorers. The second part, "I Am" (2009), describes a long, endless dream that navigates the void of interstellar space towards the distant star.

In the third part, "Scherzo," the Lithuanian space pioneers navigate "impossibly close orbits around their destination—the hermetic star." The composers note: "Its light and gravity are so strong that time and space, cause and effect, swap places. The duality of cause and effect becomes irrelevant as the star's light and gravity shatter even the logic of earthly dreams. The only remaining question is how to find the way back and what to bring as gifts for loved ones."

The composers express special gratitude to Mindaugas Bačkus, the leader of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, whose cello sounds guided them into the vastness of the universe in the first part of the cycle and sent a coded message that initiated the creation of the third part.
