Information for concert goers

Attention listeners, the concert time is changing. The concert will start at 19:00.

The Contemporary Music Festival “Permainų muzika” invites you once again to embrace change and new experiences! Now in its 20th year, the festival presents the finest examples of 20th and 21st-century music that have influenced changes in music history, as well as the most modern forms of expression, and introduces interactions between various art forms. The festival’s program, which covers a broad context of contemporary culture, offers a rich variety of internationally significant projects, encouraging exploration of intriguing contemporary art territories and experiencing the joy of discovery.

The festival program will be crowned by the “Requiem in memoriam Stasys Lozoraitis” by the renowned Lithuanian composer, educator, and politician Osvaldas Balakauskas. The composer’s deep respect for the individual to whom this work is dedicated—Lithuanian President of Hope Stasys Lozoraitis—inspired him to reinterpret and commemorate the tradition of Christian music.

In 1993, while Balakauskas was serving as Lithuania’s ambassador to France, Spain, and Portugal, Lozoraitis ran for the presidency of the Republic of Lithuania but was not elected. He passed away a year later. Shortly thereafter, the composer honored Stasys Lozoraitis by creating his only religious opus—the “Requiem,” for which he received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts the following year.

Balakauskas’s “Requiem” invites reflection on the journey to Eternity as a path of light and peace. According to the composer, he created the “Requiem” as a distinctly traditional work, returning to the origins of the genre—Gregorian chant, organum, and Ars Nova motet style. Balakauskas’s cycle is intimate, meditative, and chamber-like, reflecting a serene encounter with the face of God.
