Pianist Julija Bagdonavičiūtė—an active performer of contemporary music, creator of interdisciplinary projects, chamber music collaborator, and recipient of prestigious scholarships—comes to Klaipėda with a program that reflects her artistic journey and the aesthetic of her debut album “Srautas” (“Flow”). In this album, the artist explores the theme of a “surging multitude”: from streams of light, air, warmth, sand, and sound to the currents of people, thoughts, memories, and emotions. This constant change, flow, and transformation becomes the overarching dramaturgical principle of the program.
In this concert, the works performed by Julija create a multifaceted map of contemporary and 20th-century music, where Diana Čemerytė’s intimate minimalism, Žibuoklė Martinaitytė’s dramaturgy of light, Anatolijus Šenderovas’s symbolic expression, Raminta Šerkšnytė’s ostinato-based rituals, and Vidmantas Bartulis’s melancholic silence meet. Among them are cycles by Czech masters Leoš Janáček and Bedřich Smetana, offering different interpretations of fog, transience, and the inner landscape. The program concludes with works by contemporary Lithuanian composers Julius A. Andrejevas and Jonas Jurkūnas, adding theatrical, grotesque, ironic, and playful moods.
