The evening will bring to life some of the most striking works of 19th-century Romanticism through the dialogue of two distinguished musical personalities: pianist Lukas Geniušas and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Modestas Pitėnas.
The program features two D minor symphonic masterpieces: Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7. Brahms composed his Piano Concerto in D minor as a work filled with inner struggle, spiritual drama, and immense emotional intensity.
This piece marked a turning point in the evolution of the concerto genre: the piano is not merely ornamental but an equal partner with the orchestra, jointly weaving a powerful symphonic vision. Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 in D minor is one of his darkest and most dramatic symphonic works. Composed against a backdrop of national consciousness and political tension, the music conveys a pulse of anxiety, indomitable will, and ultimately, triumphant hope.
