On the eve of All Saints' Day the Klaipeda Choir "Aukuras" and the Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra invite you to remember the departed with two exceptional Lithuanian musical works. These include the national music classic Česlovas Sasnauskas's (1867–1916) Requiem and the neoromantic Vidmantas Bartulis's (1954–2020) Stabat Mater, which shaped the Lithuanian new music landscape at the end of the 20th century.

Composed in 1915, Sasnauskas's Requiem in E minor is considered, according to musicologist Rasa Murauskaitė, the first significant example of this genre in Lithuanian musical tradition. Written more than a hundred years later, Bartulis's Stabat Mater (2019) is undoubtedly a continuation of this tradition. Bartulis, who often engaged with sacred themes in his work, created the Stabat Mater based on the 13th-century canonical Latin sequence text. This piece is one of Bartulis’s last compositions and its performance will symbolically remind us of the composer, who passed away a few years ago.
