Gediminas Gelgotas’ name and the musical artistry behind it are making a bold impact across the European contemporary art scene. According to Lina Posėčnaitė (www.mic.lt), his compositions are characterized by a refined sonic and visual aesthetic, with sharper or softer (post)minimalist nuances, unfolding through the synthesis of movement, voice, and image.
Gelgotas’ creative ideas are perfectly conveyed by his NIKO (New Ideas Chamber Orchestra), but as a “one-man orchestra,” Gediminas can also hold the audience’s attention while performing solo on stage at the piano. Renowned American composer Terry Riley wrote in a personal letter to Gelgotas in 2009: “I like that beauty seems to be the main principle. This is exactly what people are starving for – music that contains an element of peace.”
