This year marks the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis’s birth, and throughout Lithuania, concert halls are continuously filled with musical programs dedicated to one of the country’s most outstanding artists of all time. The Čiurlionis String Quartet, founded in 1968, is coming to Klaipėda to present a musical tribute to the famous Lithuanian artist.

The concert program features Čiurlionis’s String Quartet in C minor, around which carefully selected works by other composers revolve — including Joseph Haydn’s luminous and transparent "Sunrise" Quartet, the expressive final quartet by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Juozas Naujalio’s melodically charming miniature "Dream," composed a century ago, and adding a surprise element to the evening, a contemporary piece by Italian composer Giovanni Sollima titled "Federico II," known for its rhythmic energy and imaginative freedom.
