Meet the new-generation cello prodigy from Japan: Yo Kitamura. His heartfelt and virtuosic performance captivates audiences from the very first note. Following in the footsteps of the legendary Pablo Casals, this young talented cellist invites you to a concert that will be a true source of inspiration. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear a rising cello star who is already shaping the world of classical music.

Pablo Casals (1876–1973) was a legendary figure in the art of cello performance. He was a Catalan composer, performer and humanist, whose works form an essential part of cellists’ repertoires worldwide. Following the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in 1939 and moved to Puerto Rico in 1957, where he passed away in 1973. In 1972, alongside his wife Marta Casals, the legendary cellist established the private Pau Casals Foundation. Since 1984, the foundation has awarded Pablo Casals International Awards and grants to young cellists to support their studies and artistic development under the guidance of renowned teachers. Over the years, more than fifty young cellists have received these prestigious awards. The winner of First Prize of 2024 is Yo Kitamura (Japan), whom the audience of Klaipėda Cello Festival will have the privilege to hear.
