In the acoustics of the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel, a program dedicated exclusively to Pēteris Vasks will be performed, celebrating the 80th anniversary of this prominent Latvian composer. Vasks’s music harmoniously blends meditative serenity, a pursuit of light, and the intensity of spiritual states, making his compositions exceptionally suited to the sacred atmosphere.

The Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra and the choir “Aukuras,” conducted by Tomas Ambrozaitis, will perform works representing different directions of Vasks’s creativity — from ascetic textures built on the poetics of silence and pauses to emotional expression exploring themes of inner human experiences. The program brings together choral and orchestral dimensions of Vasks’s musical language, allowing listeners to hear the core of his music: intersections of fragile hope, contemplation, and spiritual elevation. This concert serves not only as a jubilee dedication but also as an opportunity to explore the contemporary music tradition of the Baltic countries through the prism of one of its most significant composers.
