“Music Without Chairs” is an unconventional classical music concert based on the principles of somatic listening, where you experience music not by sitting still, but by moving freely within the space.
It is an interactive musical performance inviting each participant to discover their own personal way of being with music — to stand, lie down, move, or remain still; to listen with eyes open or closed. This experience encourages listening not only with the mind, but with the body, allowing music to resonate on a deeper emotional and physical level.
The concert features classical works performed by pianist Darius Mažintas, accompanied by guidance from somatic teacher and therapist Kamilė Pundziūtė. Their collaboration creates an unconventional yet safe and open environment, where music, movement, and inner awareness come together.
This project was born out of a partnership with the platform “Šokių erdvė,” which for more than a decade has been organizing sessions inviting participants to immerse themselves in music, movement, and their inner world. Methods from these practices are integrated into the concert structure, expanding the boundaries of a traditional classical music experience.
What happens when the chairs are removed from a concert?
According to the creators of this program, it opens up the possibility to experience music differently — authentically, freely, and personally. Just like listening to music at home, here you can choose the position, movement, or place in the space that feels most comfortable for your body, allowing the music to reach you beyond the traditional seated experience.
We invite you to immerse yourself in a new kind of musical experience.
