A. Bruckner
One of the most important and oldest symphony orchestras in Lithuania, known for its vast repertoire, will this time present just one monumental piece – the magnificent Symphony No. 8 in C minor by Anton Bruckner (1824–1896), the composer often referred to as a philosopher and even a theologian. This is his final completed symphony, which Bruckner himself called a “mystery,” while others named it the “Apocalyptic Symphony,” and music scholars have described it as the pinnacle of 19th-century music.
This monumental work will be conducted by the principal guest conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Victorien Vanoosten. A recipient of the French Republic’s Order of Arts and Letters for his contributions to French culture, Maestro Vanoosten is highly anticipated in the world’s most renowned concert halls. He is the artistic and music director of the Toulon Opera and the Neuchâtel Symphony Ensemble in Switzerland and, starting in 2024, will be a more frequent presence in Vilnius. Vanoosten’s interpretative passion will unfold at the Klaipėda Concert Hall.
