The PlaCello, a quartet of talented and accomplished cellists from Romania, proves that after the frenzy of the cello, all that jazz razzmatazz and dancing, the cello can also spread classical beauty in a similar mood. The ensemble, formed by Răzvan Suma, has put together a programme of overtures from Baroque and classical operas and other works, sparkling like champagne and bursting with energy. As the quartet’s director says, “everything here is about a new beginning. Since the operas begin with overtures, we hope this will symbolise the return of the world to the way it was before.” Isn’t this a great way to prepare for a return to a re-energised life? Into the coming week and new assignments?
